Pamela

SIR PHILIP SIDNEY, Arcadia, 16th Century

PAMELA'S PRAYER

‘0 all seeing Light, and eternal Life of all things, to whom nothing is either so great that it may resist, or so small that it is contemned; look upon my misery with thine eye of mercy, and let thine infinite power vouchsafe to limit out some proportion of deliverance unto me, as to thee shall seem most convenient. Let not injury, 0 Lord, triumph over me, and let my faults by thy hand be corrected, and make not mine enemy the minister of thy justice. But yet, 0 Lord, if, in thy wisdom, this be the aptest chastisement for my inexcusable folly; if this low bondage be fittest for my over high desires; and the pride of my not enough humble heart be thus to be broken, 0 Lord, I yield unto thy will, and joyfully embrace what sorrow thou wilt have me suffer. Only thus much let me crave of thee let my craving, 0 Lord, be accepted of thee, since even that proceeds from thee let me crave (even by the noblest title which in my great affliction I may give myself, that I am thy creature; and by thy goodness, which is thyself) that thou wilt suffer some beams of thy majesty to shine into my mind, that it may still depend confidently on thee. Let calamity be the exercise, but not the over-throw of my virtue: let their power prevail, but prevail not to destruction. Let my greatness be their prey; let my pain be the sweetness of their revenge; let them (if so seem good unto thee) vex me with more and more punishment. But, 0 Lord, let never their wickedness have such a hand, but that I may carry a pure mind in a pure body.'

What if Jesus

What if Jesus
Didn't say what he meant
Beat around the bush
And sat on the fence?

What if Jesus
Kept his feelings inside
Because to be vulnerable
was too much for his pride?

What if Jesus
Decided to play it safe
Let someone else jump first
Because he lacked the faith?

What if Jesus
Put himself first
Made life about what he wanted
And didn't bother to serve?

What if Jesus
Was too busy to hear
The pain of others
Because it was too much to bear?

What if Jesus
Valued wealth and success
Shunned the weak and poor
And laughed at their distress?

What if Jesus
Said we came first to him
But was apathetic and far
When we called his name?

What if Jesus
Chose to never forgive
Any transgressions or sins
Unless they were his?

What if Jesus
When faced with sacrifice
Decided to save himself
Instead of giving us life?

What if Jesus
Said that he had been hurt too much
That it just wasn't worth it
To give us his love?

What if Jesus
Was just part of this world
Lost and confused
Instead of savior and Lord?

What if we
Had it all wrong?
What if Jesus
Never died on the cross?
What if Jesus
Was just like us?

Beyond Pearls

If I just do my thing and you do yours,
We stand in danger of losing each other
And ourselves
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations;
But I am in this world to confirm you
As a unique human being.
And to be confirmed by you.

We are fully ourselves only in relation to each other;
The “I” detached from a “Thou”
Disintegrates

I do not find you by chance;
I find you by an active life
Of reaching out.

Rather than passively letting things happen to me,
I can act intentionally to make them happen.

I must begin with myself, true;
But I must not end with myself:
The truth begins with two.

Being Me

I am a Florida native
A dork, sure to make you laugh
I stand 5 foot three inches
But never forget the half

I am always on the go
I work and play hard
My house is always straightened
But there are tons of weeds in the yard

I am half Chinese
And the rest of me is mutt
I try to keep things PG-13
Because I get uncomfortable around smutt

My attention span is short
I have already tuned you out
But I pay attention to your heart
And the things that really count

Most would say I am difficult
But I am loving and sweet
I sing in the shower
And have the tiniest, little feet

I have a crooked smile
And I hate to drive
I live my life with passion
Because it makes me feel alive

I definitely am not a loner
I love my family and friends
Still looking for the perfect lover
Who will stand beside me until the end

Yes, I am a hopeless romantic
I cry more times than I like to admit
I pursue happiness and goodness
And haven't given up yet

I won't apologize for who I am
Accept me flaws and all
I know I am not a poet
But there is a little poet within us all

My name is Pam
And that's who I am meant to be
I know I am not perfect
But all in all, I am pretty good at being me . . .

Don, The Poet

My friend Don from the cruise wrote a supplemental poem to online dating, and I couldn't resist posting it. :-)~

On line dating
Is truly an art:
If you want to be lucky,
You'd better be smart.

Don't send out photos
Of your truck or your bike,
'Cause prospective girlfriends
Them things they don't like.
Don't post them pictures
Of your previous flings,
Because jealous women
Don't take to them things.

A word of advice
To short, old, ugly guys
You'd better be loaded:
(With money, not fries!!)

One last reminder,
Before I am done:
Not all that glitters is golden:
Compatibility 's Number One.

Hello World!

This is to all the amazing people I know . . .

Ra sputters instead of purrs
Scuro taps across the floor
Mom's baby, I'm always hers
Been taller than Kim since I was four

Lisa loves her kids so much
Tony cooks like a chef
To Steve the Gators are quite a rush
Watson is pretty much nearly deaf

Listen to the sad song that Mark wrote
Joel is the most stubborn one I've met
Francis is good with a thank you note
Jay's helping mom out with her rent

Tom is a writer by his art
Dave teaches little ones how to play
Jen has one of the biggest, loving hearts
And Kevin dotes on Dax all day

Ann seems to always get me drunk
Mike drives his fancy car
Muhammed would have no problem with a slam dunk
Midtown is Chris's favorite bar

Don, Matt, Simon, Riz, and Tim - some new friends from the cruise
Wendy, Kirk, Susan, Holly, Angela - friends in Charlotte here at home
Tausha, my oldest friend I will never lose
Pedro, Jamie, Melanie, and Adam who I visit when I roam

Too many people to possibly list
And a poet, you know I am not
So I will end by saying this . . .
Thank you, God for this lot!

Unfinished

I need someone forgiving
'Cause, boy, do I make mistakes
But that's part of living
Thank God I'm under grace

I need someone who is stable
At least when I am weak
Most of the time I am able
But sometimes I have to weep

I need someone who is gentle
Because I am as fragile as can be
This heart has already been broken
And tough, that's just not me

Mass and Space

Give me a love that matters
Baby, I know your love is true
But if it doesn't transpire into action
Then what use to me are you?

Honey, give me a love that matters
Sure, it can be pure and sweet
But if it doesn't bring you to your knees sometimes
For me, that love's too neat

Give me a love that matters
It's okay if it is a mess
As long as you are right beside me
Sweetheart, we'll withstand the test

Give me a love that means something
Love that is going to last
Let me feel it when you love me
Love me with space and mass

Baby, give me a love that matters
That's all I need . . .

Composed

I am quietly falling apart
So that nobody can hear
I push them away
Though I need them near
So stubborn and angst
I feel I have regressed
Back to my teenage years
Of hopeless and depressed
Reduced to tears
Empty and tired
Afraid to sleep
And nothing desired
Waiting for something
To fix it all
Be it God or man
They don’t hear my call
Crying for help
That just doesn’t come
Because it is up to me
To get it done
Needing love
The unconditional kind
That makes a difference
And heals time
Desperately seeking
Something I have never found
To be happy and safe
Believing it will all turn out
Here I am, calm and composed
Hurting silently - so that nobody knows

Poem I Found On-Line

Daddy, please love me
It’s dark, and I’m so scared;
There’s something in my closet,
Please show me that you care.
Come chase away the monsters,
They won’t stay when you are near;
They just like to scare us kids,
But dads they know to fear.

Daddy, please love me
Hold me close and tight;
Tell me, “Daddy’s here now,
Everything will be all right.”
Let me snuggle close against your chest
Where warmth and comfort dwell’
And rock me oh so gently
Until the hurts all melt.

Daddy, please love me,
Let me be your special girl.
Bill calls Sue his little princess
Even when her hair’s up in curls.
Could I be your “Little Princess?”
It would mean so very much;
Daddy, don’t you understand?
I need our lives to touch!

Daddy, please love me,
Why do your hurt me so?
This isn’t what I wanted,
Please, Daddy, let me go.
I only longed for love and comfort,
To soothe away the pain,
Now I lay broken and shattered,
To never ask again.

One of My Favorite Poems

SOLITUDE

LAUGH, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
But has trouble enough of it's own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air.
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.

Rejoice, and men will seek you;
Grieve, and they turn and go.
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
Be sad, and you lose them all.
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
But alone you must drink life's gall.

Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a long and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.

An Ode to my Blog Followers . . .

Some of you are friends
Some are strangers
Some are family
Some might be people I used to know
Or that I will know sooner or later
But all of you are welcomed to be part of my life
My Thoughts, my world
My success, my strife
I don't have much to say
But knowing that someone hears
makes everything okay
But who are you?
What am I to you?
Do you love me?
Did you love me?
Do I need to tell you I am sorry?
Or maybe that I am here to listen?
Or that I care . . .
I know some people wonder
What am I doing here?
Why do I feel the need to share?
Maybe that is just who I am
But if you are here, you probably already know that . . .

I Come from the Past; I am the Future

I am confused and utterly lost
I wonder who I am and where I'm going...what I'll do and how I do it
I hear words and wonder if they are true; I hear a question and try to answer
I see before me a blurry path, one that's unsure; yet I choose to go on
I want to be someone that helps someone else and someone who can make a difference
I am confident and have my mind made up

I am strong, persistent, and motivated
I pretend I am happy when I am sad; pretend I am content, though I'm not
I feel responsible for those around me, guilty when I fail, and that I want so much more than what I'm given
I touch those around me with a gentle concern, considerate thought, or intellectual advice
I worry about my mother, my cat, my friends, my future, and my world I cry at old movies that have unhappy endings...where the boy doesn't get the girl
I am weak, emotional, and alone

I am nothing...nothing at all
I understand no one except myself, but have my own concept of the world around me
I say some things I wish I never said and kept others silent when I should have spoken
I dream of happy endings where every maiden gets her prince and everyone lives happily ever after
I try to be perfect, but it never quite works; I try my best and know it can be better
I hope one day my dreams come true, and I can honestly say
I am everything...everything I ever wanted to be

Pamela Karr, 1995

Dut, Da, Da, Da! Charge!

I'm going to write a poem and guess what?
This is it.
However, this poem, as I call it, will be...different.
(Uh oh!)
I'm not going to avoid ugly sounding words like...
snorkel!
belch!
and knuckle hair!
(Oh,my God!)
I'm going to end one of the lines with the unrhyming word...
orange.
(How awful!)
Everyone is happy!!!! How about that?
No meter am I showing, if you have noticed...
iambic, diambic, or pentameter.
none.
If you like, I might even point out that no one has
died,
been beaten,
raped,
heart broken,
alone,
in love,
in lust,
or has had sex.
So, it is probably being asked...
What is your point...
This is poetry isn't it?
Well, maybe that's the point.
I think, I'll end in the middle of a...

Pamela Karr - 10th Grade

Alone

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Seems a common trend for poetry posts these days. Thought I would jump on the band wagon. I'll even find one of my poems and post it later on. All my poetry was written in my depressed teenage years, so I will give you some time to prepare . . .
